 Draw a Vase

Step 1:

The piece we’ll draw in this guide on how to draw a vase is beautiful and detailed, with lots of little touches to see. We’ll break these decorative details into smaller parts to make them more manageable. To begin, we will start with the back of the vase. The neck and rim of this vase have a lot of detail, but you can start by drawing a thin rectangular piece for the perimeter of the vase.

Next, we’ll combine curly spiral shapes and thin, tapered shapes to make an intricate design. You can copy the sequences as they occur in our connection image to ensure correct symmetry and size.

Step 2:

We will start creating the outline of the central body of the vase design in this next step. To do this, extend a curved line down each side of the neck, curving outward, as you can see in the reference image.

Then, once you’ve drawn those lines for the outline, we’ll add a line of many small curves with small dots above each. It will add to the decoration, and we’ll add it in later steps.

Step 3:

For this third step of our guide on drawing a vase, we will add some additional decorative details to it. These details will be pretty straightforward for now, but we’ll add to them later. For now, you can start by drawing a series of curved lines on the vase’s body.

In the previous step, you can add a small pointed line inside each curved shape you drew for the base of the vase. Once they’ve been removed, move on to step 4!

Step 4:

We will now work based on the drawing of the vase in this step and the next. First, draw a small, thin border at the bottom of the removed vase. Next, draw two curved lines from each end and curve them slightly inward.

You can then finish this part of the vase by drawing another border at the base, and then you can add a slightly wider edge around this. Then you will be ready for the final touch of this vase in the next step!

Step 5:

This fifth step of our guide on drawing a vase will allow you to add some elements and finishes! The central part that we will focus on is the base of the vase. Draw curved lines to create a flat shape for the base; then, you can add decorative spiral lines inside. Then you stand prepared for the final stage!

Before continuing, you can also take what you have learned and modify some details to create your vase design. You can also draw a background for a bit more fun!

Step 6:

You are now ready for one of the most fun parts of creating this vase design; color it! For our reference image, we show you only one way to color it. We used bright and bold colors to give this vase a classic look. The primary colors for this design are yellow, red, and green, and we’ve even used the colors to add more decorative detail to the plan.

You can use a similar color scheme, but this is your design, so use whatever colors you like! There are no wrong answers here, so let your creativity run wild. Once you have chosen your colors, you would like to know what art mediums you will use for the colors. You can achieve vivid colors using mediums like colored markers or acrylics, but for softer tones, you can use watercolors or colored pencils.

Here’s how you can make your vase design even better.

Make that beautiful vase sketch even better with some fun and helpful tips! People who display vases often have a collection of several vases arranged together. For this reason, adding something else to this vase design might be fun! Now that you learned to draw a vase, adding as many vases as you want to this arrangement would be easy. If you did this, do you think you would have them all in a similar style, or would each be unique?

Speaking of drawing different vases, you can drastically change the design of this one if you want. You can follow the guide and then modify some decorative details.

As we suggested above, it would be a fun challenge to portray a new style, and you could even draw a few different vase designs in one picture. Looking for pictures of vases online would be a great way to find inspiration for different vases you could design. The style of this vase design looks quite old, and you can use it to create an exciting image. For example, perhaps you could draw the vase on pieces partially submerged in sand. It would give the impression that this vase was recently discovered at an archaeological dig site.

What other ways could you make this vase look like a bygone era in history? Finally, you can spice up this vase sketch by adding a background. It could be as simple as a parlor game, but you can also choose from more elaborate settings. For example, you could display this vase in a fancy museum. You could surround it with interesting artifacts and objects if you did. These are just two exciting parameter ideas you could represent in this illustration, but can you think of any others you could use instead?
